TEST PROCESS
LRMP measurement professionals follow all regulations set forth by the Illinois Division of Nuclear Safety (SEE THE "LINKS" SECTION OF THIS SITE FOR COMPLETE DETAILS) and complies with guidelines established by the U.S. EPA.

The objective of testing is to determine if the average levels of radon are at acceptable levels for the duration of the test period.

Be aware that short-term radon tests require closed-house conditions. (SEE: "CLOSED HOUSE" SECTION OF THIS SITE) Closed house conditions mean keeping all window closed, keeping doors closed except for normal entry and not operating fans or other machines which bring air in from outside (except for fans that are part of a radon reduction system, or small exhaust fans that operate for only short periods of time). Before Testing: Begin closed-house conditions at least 12 hours before the start of the short-term test. We use Continuous monitors by RTCA to achieve the most accurate results possible.
Radon levels fluctuate from hour-to-hour day-to-day season-to-season and year-to-year. In order to get a reliable reading, it is important to control all the variables of the test that can otherwise influence the results. For this and other reasons, The US EPA, The Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety and, The National Association of Realtors ® (NAR); recommend using licensed experts to perform radon measurements.

Variables that need to be controlled include equipment tracking & calibration, placement procedures, and environmental conditions.
